JUSTICE
FOR
AGA
Thank You Letter
I, Belinda, representing the Justice For Aga team, would like to express my deepest gratitude and admiration to Chika Yamada, Youdiil Ophinni, and Allie Mikolanis as Global Citizens who have been integral to the struggle to improve drug law enforcement in Indonesia.
A special thank you to all the GoFundMe donors who have supported this case. Your contributions have been a crucial form of solidarity in this fight.
The victory in the Aga Van Baros case, where he was prosecuted for six years in prison for possessing less than 13 grams of narcotics, is a triumph for the drug victims movement at IDUNET (Indonesia Drug User Network).
We also extend our most profound appreciation to Advocate Bung Yoga (Muh Nur Katief, S.H.), Omdo A.D. Simarmata, S.H. from Dear & Co Law Firm, and their team for their relentless efforts in fighting for Aga’s rights. The narcotics criminal law in Indonesia has long been detrimental to drug victims, and your dedication to this case is invaluable.
Advocate Yoga’s commitment at LBH Pemuda Pancasila has shaped a fearless and unwavering legal struggle. We also acknowledge Advocate Mr. Badar Karwayu (Badar Law Office), previously an advocate at LBHM—you are a rock! Thank you for cooperating in this joint fight, which began in February 2024 at the South Jakarta Police Station.
Victory at Every Step
Aga’s case won in the Primary Court, despite an appeal by the Prosecutor, where we emerged victorious once again.
From the beginning, Aga never sought a plea deal—and we applaud him for this stance. Drug users have long been treated as cash cows in Indonesia’s legal and criminal justice system, but Aga fought back!
The key to resistance is networking and a solid team
A huge thanks to all the team members who played a part in this fight:
Mr. Abdullah Denovan Denovan Abdullah, who assisted in the P.42 prosecutor’s simulation
Dr. Herni Tambunan, SPKJ, from RSKO Jakarta (Jakarta Rehabilitation Centre Hospital), who served as an expert medical and scientific witness
Mr. Tommy Sitomgum, S.H., who was involved in the early stages of the case
Senior friends and supporters of the Justice for Aga team—your contributions deserve collective recognition in this victory!
A Reminder to All
Drug victims are never alone, should never be alone, and do not have to be alone.
Every human being deserves recognition that upholds their dignity.
I encourage all fighters for justice to never give up.
Miracles often come in moments we least expect.
Let’s work together to make Indonesia a better place for everyone, especially the marginalized and excluded.
